Bristol in decay

Photography Showcase

A snapshot of Timothy Langton’s latest photography project, highlighting the beauty of a decaying Bristol. Tim uses images of things that would be considered ugly or broken to portray them in a different way.

Bristol in decay is an ongoing art project I have started to highlight the beauty in the decaying forgotten bits of the city, and also using the platform and images to highlight environmental and community issues such as pollution, dilapidation and vandalism.”

Burnt out and destroyed Shows what a menace the car is to our roads and how much destruction they can cause, the one on the left having been burnt out on a busy street in the day time and the right is symbolising what happened to the bollard. Cars and travel push our society forward but can cause a lot of destruction on the way.

Overgrown and crooked These fence posts are crooked and rusty and really highlights the decaying aspect of this area in Bristol with many old houses and lots being refurbished, some obviously slip through the cracks.

Washed up These items have been left in the river and forgotten about and it points to our throwaway culture we have in this country that needs to be addressed.

Lost rubbish The plastic and rubbish pollution in this country is out of control for how ‘developed’ we are but people still find it hard to recycle and get stuff into a bin, these pictures really highlight that.

Forgotten The composition in these photos points to the forgotten aspects of Bristol and how they decay over time, which is one of the main ideas for this instagram page.

Flaking and smashed The graffiti paint layers photo shows how long people have been spray painting the walls in this city and i feel like it’s a great way of showing time passing over the city, and how committed people are to their art and seeing as its illegal, commiting crimes, moving onto the next picture we see broken glass by a car, this is a common sight in this city.
