Jay Electronica returns to Bristol for what will be one of the biggest nights this year
Words: Delroy Hibbert
In 2007 a star was born when Jay Electronica dropped his debut mixtape Act 1: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge) Not your average mixtape either, it was an experimental 15 minute piece of artistry that drew samples from the film score of the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind overlaid by spoken word and his own thoughtful rhymes that made Hip Hop sit up and take notice.

The success of this effort brought him to the attention of hip hop fans, the music critics and Jay Z who signed him for Roc Nation in 2010. Time was obviously no essence to both Jays as it would be another ten years of more solo releases and occasional guest appearances before he released the album A Written Testimony with guests Jay Z himself, Travis Scott and The-Dream to the same critical acclaim that met Act 1 13 years earlier.
This September sees his first return to Bristol since his seminal show in 2015 at the Exchange with a gig at the Marble Factory promoted by Bristol Beacon. It’s going to be one of the biggest nights in the calendar and with Freshers arriving on top of local demand tickets are bound to be in demand.
Todd Wills, Artistic Director at Bristol Beacon, said: “We are so excited to host one of the biggest rap and hip-hop legends right here in Bristol this September.
Having worked with some of the most iconic names in the industry, we are thrilled that Jay Electronica can join us for a night of incredible music which is set to send shockwaves through Bristol.”
Doors will open at 6:00pm, with the show expected to start at 6:30pm.
