Freestyle Bristol presents The 4 Pillars Bristol: a series of multi arts events as part worldwide festivities to mark the 50th anniversary of hip hop. We are bringing it back to the original four pillars of hip hop to celebrate the culture and the impact it’s had on our city. Part of Bristol’s Summer Film Takeover by Bristol City of Film
A programme of events that will celebrate Hip Hop’s 50th birthday and an exploration of how it helped influence and left a lasting legacy on Bristol’s culture; as part of a wider Summer of Film & Music.

Graffiti workshops, digital corner, marketplace, Ujima roadshow featuring breaking, MCing and DJing

Unique archive footage; music videos, mini documentaries highlighting Bristol’s unique contribution to Hip Hop culture and its ongoing impact and legacy.

Watch video archives, listen to mixtapes and radio shows from the archive, listen to people’s personal stories about hip hop and record your own oral histories to add to the collection
With Inkie, FLX and others
Practice your writing skills with local legend Inkie using an array of spray paints, stencils and paint pens. Suitable for all including children and families.

Alongside the 4 Pillars events, we are hoping to deliver an educational and training programme which takes its name from the often forgotten fifth element of hip hop, knowledge. Stay tuned for details to come of our programme for young people in partnership with BIMM, including internships, volunteer placements, a summer school and youth projects.
